We've heard enough about plaques and pandemics to last a life time. But is this virus the real danger? I'm most concerned about another threat that's spreading on the heels of this virus.
Daily we hear what could happen. How many could die, how the economy could collapse. I can be terrifying. So what is the greater threat?
It's the insidious, life-crippling fear that is spreading across our nation. What if . . . what if . . . what if?
This morning, I could hardly wait to get to my swing. The sun was shining so I thought my light jacket would be enough, but I was wrong. So, I put on my heavy winter coat and returned to the swing.
We're in a place right now where "light jackets" of faith are no longer enough. We need to be much more proactive in insulating ourselves against the chilling blast of fear spreading across this nation.
Years ago, my friend and I used to meet every week to wait on the Lord and study Scripture together. I don't remember what prompted her comment one day but I'll never forget her declaration. She said, "I WILL NOT MOVE IN FEAR!"
Perhaps we need to adopt this phrase. When the "what-if's" and the "could-happens" cross your mind, stamp your feet and say, "NO! I WILL NOT MOVE IN FEAR!"
Why can we be so bold?
"There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment" (1 John 4:18).
He said, "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand" (Isaiah 41:10).
"Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you" (1Peter 5:7).
Take courage, friends, God's got this!
